1) Painter and Padma Bhushan awardee Laxman Pai died at his residence in Goa. He was 95.
Laxman Pai was honoured with a number of prestigious awards, together with Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri, Nehru Award and Lalit Kala Akademi Award.
2) The United States overtook Saudi Arabia as India’s second biggest oil supplier last month.
Saudi Arabia, which has consistently been one of India’s top two suppliers, slipped to No. 4 for the first time since at least January 2006.
Recent News :- The United States has extended the “New START” nuclear disarmament treaty with Russia for a period of five years. The New START, which stands for Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty, is a nuclear arms reduction treaty between the United States and the Russian Federation.
3) The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) launched a sounding rocket (RH-560) from Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota, to study attitudinal variations in the neutral winds and plasma dynamics.
Recent News :- The Indian Space Research Organisation launched 'Sindhu Netra', a satellite developed by the DRDO to monitor the activities of military and merchant navy ships in the Indian Ocean Region.

5) The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has announced a new scheme, under which any tourist vehicle operator may apply for an “All India Tourist Authorization/Permit” through online mode.

6) India has signed a key pact with the Philippines called “implementing arrangement” for “procurement of defence material and equipment”, as per which the country will buy the BrahMos cruise missiles from India.
Philippine Defence Secretary Delfin Lorenzana was also present at the pact's signing ceremony in Manila.

9) Bhavani Devi became the first ever Indian fencer to qualify for the Olympics. The sabre fencer secured an Olympic spot due to events in the ongoing Fencing World Cup.
Hosts Hungary lost in the quarterfinals of the team event, allowing Korea to progress to the semis. Therefore, Bhavani Devi qualifies through the Adjusted Official Ranking (AOR) Method.
10) Politician-writer M Veerappa Moily, poet Arundhathi Subramaniam are among 20 writers who will be bestowed with the Sahitya Akademi Award 2020.
The national academy of letters announced the names during the opening day of its annual 'Festival of Letters' event.
Subramaniam won the award for her poetry collection "When God is a Traveller" in English.
Moily won the award for his epic poetry titled "Sri Bahubali Ahimsadigvijayam" in Kannada.
The list includes seven books of poetry, four novels, five short stories, two plays, and one each of memoirs and epic poetry in 20 Indian languages.
