1) DMK president M K Stalin was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu at Raj Bhawan in Chennai. He was administered the oath by Governor Banwarilal Purohit.
Along with Stalin, 33 other ministers from his party also took the oath. The oath-taking ceremony was carried out following all Covid protocols. and less than 300 people were invited for the ceremony.

2) Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) president and former Union minister Ajit Singh died due to Covid-19, confirmed his son Jayant Chaudhary. He was 82.
Singh, a seven-time MP from Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat, was the son of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh. He founded the RLD in 1996.
3) Scientists have found the oldest-known human burial in Africa, the continent that gave rise to our species, dating to about 78,000 years ago at a cave site called Panga ya Saidi near the Kenyan coast. They nicknamed the youngster 'Mtoto,' meaning 'child' in Swahili.
4) Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) and UK’s Rolls-Royce have signed an MoU to establish packaging, installation, marketing, and services support for Rolls-Royce MT30 marine engines in India.

6) State-owned SAIL has enhanced its daily limit of oxygen supply to over 1,100 metric tonne (MT).
Steel plants are supplying liquid medical oxygen (LMO) to hospitals across the country for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

8) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the meeting of the European Council at the invitation of President of the European Council, Charles Michel on May 8 as a special invitee.
9) The CSIR- Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology has developed, possibly the first specific drug for COVID-19 treatment, which contains therapeutic antibodies.

6 viral testing labs have been established by AFMS in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research. These labs are also functional at various AFMS Hospitals.
